FAQs

Q:

Who is the group for?

A:

Christian homeschooling families that seek community and shared learning experiences as a supplement to their home-based schooling. This is a cooperative rooted in faith in Jesus and the truths in His Word. We desire this group to help homeschooling families abide in Jesus, to bring Him glory and bear good fruit as faithful parents. All families who apply for membership must affirm our Biblically based Statement of Faith. Each family must have an affidavit on record with their school district here in PA confirming home schooling status OR that their children are under the private tutor provision with the child’s parent(s) as the primary tutor(s).

Q:

When and where do you meet?

A:

We meet on Wednesdays for 10 weeks in the fall and spring at DOVE Westgate Church in Ephrata, PA. In addition to regularly scheduled co-op meetings, we offer activities like field trips, hiking meetups, family picnics, service projects and moms’ nights out.

Q:

What classes do you offer?

A:

Our co-op is built around engaged, hands-on learning and community. To this end we offer elective classes to supplement your homeschool academics. Class offerings change each year and semester based around what our moms are passionate about and willing to teach. We aim to offer gym for each age group. Here is sampling of past/present class offerings.

Preschool: Music, Stories, Crafts and Play

Lower Elementary: Gym, Seasonal Arts and Crafts, Music

Upper Elementary: Gym, Christmas around the World, Handbells, Math Games, Hands on Science

Secondary: Gym, Creative Communication, Hands on Science Labs, Games and Logic

Q:

Will I have to teach or lead classes?

A:

We are a parent run co-op and as such all parents are required to teach a class at least one semester per year. We try to allow new members to assist in classrooms their first year to help them get accustomed to our co-op flow and schedule, although this is dependent on the number of members each year.

Q:

Will I have to assist in classrooms or help with set up or tear down?

A:

Yes, our co-op relies on members’ participation to run smoothly. As such, be prepared to be assigned each semester to assist in a classroom, help with set up or tear down or other role as needed. We try to place members in a role that matches their talents, but there are a number of roles that are just required to be filled for the co-op day to run smoothly.

In addition, we ask each mom to serve in some way beyond the actual co-op day by planning field trips, parties, service projects, etc.

Q:

Do you provide nursery care?

A:

Nursery care will be provided for infants and toddlers up through age 2 for parents while they are serving.

Q:

Do you provide accomodations for learners with special circumstances?

A:

We are a parent fueled co-operative. As such, at this time we are not equipped to meet the needs of students that have learning and/or behavioral disorders in our learning groups and classes. Each child that joins us needs to be able to function well in the classroom environment that is approximate to their age level.

Q:

How do I join your group?

A:

Our application is available here on our website. We also highly recommend contacting us at [email protected] to schedule a morning to come visit our co-op in session.

Q:

Do I have to be homeschooling to join your co-op?

A:

We require each family to be homeschooling one child with an affidavit on file with their local school district under option 1 or 2. All families must affirm they are homeschooling their children in accordance with PA law. All of the family’s children will then be eligible to participate in our co-ops days and activities.

Q:

What do you believe?

A:

We are a Christian group of families seeking to love the Lord and others in all that we do. Our statement of faith can be found here. All members must affirm our statement of faith.

Q:

What is your fee schedule?

A:

Please check our current application for this semester's fees.

Q:

Do you offer financial assistance to those with need?

A:

If the co-op fees would keep you from being able to attend please contact us.  Our team will be able to consider assisting several families if we know there is a true need.
